Land of the midnight sun…

Just left Nome after a couple of days moving cargo around. We brought up Nome’s fireworks for the 4th, as well as a lot of heavy machinery and building supplies. This is the farthest north I have ever been, and my first experience with the midnight sun. Midnight seemed like mid morning to me. It was odd, and gave me a second wind while working. My normal bed time is 8:00. We are headed to Dillingham now with a mostly empty barge. We’ll be picking up fish there.

Speaking of fish, I am still looking at getting a good deal on some fish up here. The stores have pretty poor selections, as most people fish themselves, or know fisherman. Might get something from Dutch. There was a deal for King Crab in Nome for $4.95 a pound, but I couldn’t convince the captain that we needed it.

Now I wish that I’d bought some fish when I just went to Safeway.
