Well, as I suspected, we got hit hard after leaving Naknek. Leaving the river was easy enough, but then we hit 16 foot seas and 40 knot winds in the morning.
Our course put us in the trough of the wave so we were rocking and rolling. Plus, since we are very low on fuel, we are pretty “corky”. Making dinner was fun - but it was cooking this morning that was extra fun. I spilled hot milk all over my range, and that cooked into the surface really well. Smelled great too. But I managed to make a reasonable cassarole. My pie however got shoved around and rested on one side of the oven and burned.
This afternoon things have settled down and we are making 7 1/2 knots towards Dutch. If this holds we will be there late tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.
I managed to get this site upgraded while in Naknek, but was not able to implement any new things. The code is ready for a photo album section - maybe have something set up if we get stuck in Dutch long. Only impact so far is that the quote section on this page is not showing the correct thing.
Please send me a message if you see anything else wonky.
