I am a senior designer, I don’t have time to play games.  I have my assistants play games and write me reports.

Hey y’all — Thanks for being you.
Ok so I am a little late with the official sentiment, but get over it. Â Made pies with my mom, for t-day, then during my traditional sharpening of her knives on major holidays…. I split my middle finger down the center. Â Â Â Pretty stoopid. Â It’s going to heal fine, but I’ll probably have a scar.
As if to put that into perspective — I saw this scene on the train back from Portland.  Took me a moment to realize that these humvees where returning.
I snapped picture when I realized what it was…..those vehicles where beat up pretty good, patched and welded and stuck together.   Not one looked unscathed.   And it reminded me we are still at war and while I am safe here at home, young American men and women are living in lousy to worse conditions, and getting worked over physically and emotionally.   And it’s going to be some time for all that to heal.  So Bran and the rest of you… Thanks.
Yesterday I went to the Center On Creative Arts 15 Annual 24 Hour Painting Marathon where my friend Amy Harris was a participating artist. The idea is that a bunch of artists are invited to work for 24 hours straight, at the end of which the paintings are auctioned off. It’s a cool event and a lot of fun.
To get the full feel, I visited a couple of times during the event (although I missed the middle of night skinny dipping).
Most of the artists were put in the same big room. They would focus in their own space, but would also wander around and see the other artists works.
It was a great collection of some amazing Seattle Talent.
I found a lot of work that I wanted to bid on. Even the artists walking around where lusting after each others work. Here Patricia Hagen works on another of her fantastic worlds inspired by diatoms.
This woman did some amazing work with thread and silk.
Here Amy Harris holds up her first piece that she had just finished when I visited her in the afternoon. I really liked it. In fact I thought it one of her best pieces. This is a new style for her, and I think a great direction.
We missed the silent auction, and unfotunatley missed out on some great pieces. Here Karen looks at some of the larger pieces that were to be in the live auction. It turns out I shouldn’t have come with Karen, because she started a bidding war on the piece that I wanted, but I got it in the end. Here it is in my room:
All in all it was a lot of fun. I bid on several pieces but restrained myself when they got to the $800 range. I feel good that I helped raise the prices for some of the art. And I am pretty happy about my Harris piece. It goes well with my other stuff.
Did a shoot with Ksenia for her portfolio. I wanted to use my new lense, but I actually liked the shots with my 50mm 1.8 - which is the cheapest lense Nikon makes. Well, you use what works.
This is my favorite:
I am experimenting with Aperture’s web gallery export - you can see that experiment here.
Not all that thrilled with this feature - but I am loving Aperture in general. Haven’t been this interested in a new app since FCP 2.0. It has drastically changed and improved my photo editing and cataloging.
So, I decided to celebrate my return on land and reward myself for not spending any money all summer. I went out and bought a lense I am been lusting for quite some time - a 70-200mm 2.8 lense with image stabilization!
It’s pricey, but its the lense I need on the boat (justify..justify). I took a few shots today…nothing special, but I really love this lense!
Tomorrow I am going to shoot some model friends.
